PRESS RELEASE FROM CNN PHILIPPINES:
With the Filipino voter in mind, CNN Philippines hosts another special presentation in the lead up to the May 13th Midterm elections. The CNN Philippine Senatorial Debate will be held on Saturday, April 27th at the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Santo Tomas, the very same venue of the CNN Philippines Vice Presidential Debate on April 10, 2016.

This senatorial debate is the culmination of seven CNN Philippines senatorial forums and numerous interviews with 40 of the 62 candidates who are vying for 12 seats that will complete the 24-member Senate.

“Our goal is to provide Filipino voters a chance to make side-by-side comparison of candidates’ positions and policies,” says Armie Jarin-Bennett, President of CNN Philippines/Nine Media Corporation.

The debate, which will have two parts, will focus on three themes: Keeping Filipinos Safe, Improving the Lives of Filipinos and Building for the Future of every Filipino. Part 1 will be moderated by CNN Philippines Senior anchor/correspondent Pinky Webb from 5PM to 6:45PM. Part 2 will be moderated by CNN Philippines Chief anchor/correspondent Pia Hontiveros from 7PM to 8:45PM.

Each part of the debate will feature seven contenders who will go head-to-head on the most important issues that matter most to every Filipino.

Senatorial aspirants who will participate in the debate are Gary Alejano, Raffy Alunan, Bam Aquino, Glenn Chong, Neri Colmenares, Ronald Dela Rosa, Chel Diokno, JV Ejercito, Samira Gutoc, Florin Hilbay, Rommy Macalintal, Mar Roxas, Francis Tolentino and Erin TaƱada.

Based on the debate guidelines, candidates will each have a minute to answer general and specific questions. A candidate will be given another 30-seconds to further explain his or her answer in follow-up questions or during a rebuttal.

Viewers can join the conversation and ask questions via the CNN Philippines social media accounts using the hashtag #TheFilipinoVotes.

The CNN Philippines Senatorial debate is being presented in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and supported by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).
