GMA News anchor Jiggy Manicad officially announced his departure from the media industry, just days after it was reported that the ruling party PDP-Laban is considering him for its senatorial slate.

In a video message aired during the Saturday edition of 24 Oras Weekend, Manicad said: "Nais ko pong magpasalamat sa inyong lahat sa pagtangkilik sa aking mga programing kinonceptualize at itinatag dito sa GMA Network: ang Reporter's Notebook, Quick Response Team, at siyempre sa 24 Oras Weekend.

At muli po, maraming salamat. Ako si Jiggy Manicad at see you soon."

There's no official word yet on who will replace the now-former journalist on QRT: Quick Response Team, but it is expected that Susan Enriquez will temporarily head up the GMA News TV program. Jun Veneracion, his replacement on Reporter's Notebook, and Balitanghali anchor Raffy Tima, are also expected to co-anchor 24 Oras Weekend with Pia Arcanghel in the coming weekends.
