Just three weeks after ABS-CBN began broadcasting two of its major newscasts, TV Patrol and Bandila, in high definition, GMA News TV has followed suit... sort of.

On Monday, GMA News TV's morning news program News To Go made the transition to HD, becoming the first Kapuso newscast to do so.

To accommodate the change, the news channel's main studio (Studio 2) was revamped to make it more "HD-friendly," a source said, while a new graphics package was also introduced.

As some viewers noticed, however, News To Go is not really being aired in Full HD and its aspect ratio remains in 4.3 standard definition.

When reached by this website Thursday, a network source said both GMA News TV and GMA-7 are already capable of broadcasting in HD. This source added that News To Go is now being broadcasted in full high definition, but admitted that it has yet to be reformatted to fit widescreen television sets.

"High definition na lahat. Paunti-unti makikita rin ng Kapuso viewers ang kaibahan. Mas magiging malinaw at maganda ang kulay nito sa TV," the source said, adding that other GMA News TV and GMA-7 newscasts — like Balitanghali, which was also relaunched on Monday — will get a Full HD treatment within this year.
