One purpose of journalism is to expose the hypocrisy of the government and the politicians that make up that system. When they say one thing but end up doing another — or in some cases, not doing anything at all — journalists should be quick to call them out.

ABS-CBN News reporter Jasmin Romero just did that in her now-viral report first aired on Friday's TV Patrol.

In the piece, Romero documented the local government of Manila's clean-up drive in Manila Bay, initiated by Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada, who invited the media for coverage.

But what would've been an environmental initiative turned out to be just a mere publicity stunt when some participants threw a sack of garbage into the water and scattered it for a photo opportunity.

“Clean-up po 'yan. Pupulutin po ulit para lang may photo,” a woman said in the televised report.

Estrada didn't give a direct answer when asked about the incident but said it was merely for publicity.

"For publicity only, but we are serious in cleaning Manila Bay," he said.
