ABS-CBN News, GMA News, CNN Philippines among Gawad Tanglaw Award winners

ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs emerged as the most awarded television news organization at the 15th Gawad Tanglaw Awards, winning in eight categories including Best Public Affairs Program for Beyond Politics and Best Educational Program for Green Living.

Executive Class and Cityscape, which are both airing on the ABS-CBN News Channel, were the winners in the Best Lifestyle Program category, while the long-running Hardball won Best Sports Program.

ANC also took home the Best Business Program award with its programs On the Money and Business Nightly tying for the said category. Business Nightly anchor Cathy Yang were among the big names who graced the event Tuesday night at the Tanghalang Haribon of the Insular Life Corporate Centre in Muntinlupa City.

"Isang karangalan po ang handongan ng ganitong pagkilala sa aming programang nagbibigay kahulugan sa pag-usbong at pag-unlad ng ating ekonomiya," said Yang, who is also the managing editor of the ABS-CBN Business Group, in her acceptance speech. "Layunin naming higit pang mas nakakarami ang makinabang at sa pagsiyasat ng isyung pangkalakal, makamtan ang inaasam na mas mabuting kabuhayan para sa lahat."

ABS-CBN newsers also collected prizes, with TV Patrol's Ted Failon winning in the Best Male News Anchor category, and Umagang Kay Ganda's Jorge CariƱo and Atom Araullo tying for Best Male Morning Show Host.

Rhea Santos, who is marking her 17th year as co-host and co-anchor of Unang Hirit, meanwhile, was honored with the Best Female Morning Show Host award.

"Salamat, Kapuso Network, sa pagkakataong makapaglingkod sa telebisyon tuwing umaga sa nakalipas na 17 taon," Santos posted on her Facebook page. "Taos pusong pasasalamat sa Gawad Tanglaw sa pagkilala po sa akin. Ito'y paalala na pagbutihin ko pa ang aking trabaho at ang aking sarili."



Other winners of the night were CNN Philippines' Mitzi Borromeo for Best Female News Anchor, Newsroom for Best News Program, Imbestigador for Best Investigative Program, I Juander for Best Magazine Show, Mukha and Reporter's Notebook tying for Best Documentary Program, and News5's Reaksyon for Best Public Service Program.

Gawad Tanglaw (Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw) is an academe-based award-giving body composed of educators from selected colleges and universities in the country.
